The older I get, the less I tolerate the cold. I feel like I just can’t get warm again once I get chilled. So when spring comes, I start to rejoice.

There is always something new, like the early spring daffodils and crocuses. I like to walk down the dock to see how many crabs people have caught. Most people show off their catch with quiet pride, and will pull them out of the bucket for my daughter to admire.

One of my favorite places to soak in the joys of spring is Nanaimo’s Muffeo Sutton Park. When the sun is out, the ocean sparkles, musicians play, and there are people strolling. I love to people watch and talk to random strangers, and for me, this is a choice place to do so.

There are lots of little surprises too, if you look; like a sea otter lurking in the rocks or a carver showing their wares. Take a look for unsuspected treasures like this mural I saw for the first time.

Maybe I’ll see you and we’ll chat.
